Our Story

Rivington Pike was founded in 2014 by Richard Urban, a Jersey based independent director.

Richard’s experience includes membership of multiple fund boards, relating to the governance and risk management of over £4 billion of capital.

We share our name with a hill which is close to the northern English town of Bolton, Richard Urban’s birthplace.

As a child, Richard would look across Bolton’s industrial townscape: Past the factories, cotton mills and coal mines which employed his parents and grandparents and up towards the impressive natural landscape of the moors beyond.

The moorland summit of Rivington Pike was made even more prominent by the tower which crowned it. The tower was constructed on the foundations of a beacon which when lit, provided the local population with an early warning of impending danger.

For Richard, Rivington Pike has always represented something extraordinary and inspiring.

The name has now taken on additional meaning: A reminder of humble origins, a symbol of the preferred choice and an elegant metaphor for the early warning signals that good corporate governance and risk management can provide.
